女性反抗之声 :中国 #MeToo 运动研究 = The voice of women's resistance : a study on China's #MeToo movement
This article f...

China saw the rise of the #MeToo campaign in 2018, which eventually caused an uproar within the Chinese community. The motive and purpose of this movement is to encourage female victims of sexual harassment and violation acts to fight, to stand against and to protect their rights, by sharing their experiences coupled with the use of the hashtag #MeToo on one’s social media platforms. The author combined and analyzed literature works from across the Western and Chinese academia, including news reports, commentary articles and case studies from China as examples, in attempt to provide a more holistic analysis of this social movement. The inherent asymmetrical in power between the two genders then revealed how this has contributed to the normalization of sexual harassment acts in the world, including the Chinese society. Besides that, the author also aims to explore the close relationship between the Chinese Central government and mass media, and how they contribute to the development of #MeToo movement in China. Lastly, as #MeToo movement continues to progress in China, the author also discussed and analyzed the limitations and potential challenges that the anti-sexual harassment campaign, #MeToo could face in the future.
