Summary: | Energy politics has been a point of contention since the oil crisis of 1970. Neorealism dominates the energy research theoretical framework focusing on the role of state actors and their interests in terms of energy security. (Borovsky & Trachuk , 2015) Ever since then, states are beginning to switch from traditional energy sources to renewable energy (RE) for better energy security and to respond to environment changes mainly in association with global climate. This paper seeks to see if China’s transitioning from traditional energy to renewable energy sources has any impact on their state competitiveness based on three aspects which are factor driven, efficiency driven and innovation driven competitiveness. Using both quantitative data and qualitative data to determine the competitiveness and in conclusion, there are certain aspects that have room for improvement. Overall, RE in China is of a positive outlook with the presence of supportive policies by the government. |
