Summary: | This paper attempts to identify the factors affecting adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) from
the perspective of Singaporean Nanyang Technological University (NTU) students. Based on
the data collected from a survey, the paper found that cost is the most important factor, which
is followed by charging facilities. Furthermore, framing EVs as an environmental issue is
found to be ineffective and most respondents are apathetic to the role of EVs in sustainable
development and the Smart Nation initiative. The paper then recommends policies to address
the issues raised namely creating awareness campaigns, strengthening of charging
infrastructure and the provision of subsidies. The authors believe EVs can contribute to
Singapore’s sustainable development and Smart Nation initiative and thus efforts to increase
adoption of EVs is imperative. |
