Excessive energy consumption has become one of the severe challenges facing the planet. Scientists are investigating various areas to find a solution. Solar power, hydro and other renewable resources are expected to substitute traditional energy resources. It is equally more critical mission is to reduce consumption. As a result, it is necessary to design sophisticated energy monitoring techniques using Cyber-Physical systems.
This report presents a project to design and build a dynamic energy monitoring system using IoT and mesh network. IoT, which stands for “Internet of Things”, facilitates electrical devices to be smart and provides a convenient way to collect data. Mesh network topology allows the infrastructure nodes to communicate with each other directly. It can be used to build a more extensive and more reliable network.
In this project, Raspberry Pi's are used as aggregators/masters while Arduinos are used as end devices.
Raspbian and Arduino IDE are software used in this project. The whole system is sub-divided into nine functions to achieve the overall objective. However, there is still room to add some functionality extensions can be done to the system in the future. |
