PIU, is characterized by excessive, poorly control of Internet use that lead to impairment of distress. There have been studies that correlate the increase of anxiety in public settings with excessive reliability on Internet use. This is due to the lack of deep, meaningful and physical bonds with other people. Excessive internet use consumes valuable time, which leads to lesser time spent with family and friends. The purpose of this project is to propose a solution that allows internet users to interact and engage in social events, to effectively reduce problematic internet use and develop deep and social bonds with other people. To achieve the purpose of the project, a mobile application was proposed to be developed which integrates social media and events companies. The mobile application included social media integration such as Facebook and Google. Events in Singapore were retrieved from multiple event organizers through their exposed REST API. With social media integration, it allows users to easily invite friends and associates within their digital social network to attend events that they are interested in. Events were categorized under specific tags or interests which users can identify to allow them to meet like-minded individuals and expand their social network. Additionally, the idea behind this solution could further improved with contribution from and collaboration with the psychology field to understand the relation between internet use and psychological traits to improve the mindfulness of the application. The final part of this paper proposes the future development and recommendations with other possible application of this solution. Due to the rapid growth and accessibility to the Internet, most in society consume digital content excessively, resulting in “Internet Addiction” and Problematic Internet Use (PIU).
