Summary:Vanadium Dioxide (VO2) is a widely studied thermochromic material which shows attractive properties in energy preservation. The unique thermochromic property of VO2 is due to its transition at its phasing changing temperature, 68 oC. Various concentration of carbon content in VO2 solution was investigated to determine its effect on transmittance and photothermal effect of VO2. The thin films produced were characterized using Ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy (UV- Vis) and Photothermal testing setup. The experimental result shows that the use of carbon in the VO2 thin film increases the photothermal and decreases transmittance property of the thein film. It was further deduced that photothermal and transmittance had an inversely relationship. with increasing carbon ratio in the composite films, the photothermal effect is enhanced at the cost of reduced transmission. A simple mixing of carbon powder into Vanadium thin film would not change the τc and Tsol of the thin film.
