Summary: | Singapore is a country with high humidity and abundant rainfall. Over the past decade, the number of average rainy days per year is 166. Therefore a proper sewerage system is an essential part of Singapore public utilities. As years pass and water corrosion,it is inevitable that various defects, such as cracks and deformation, will occur in tunnels. Regular pipeline inspection and proper maintenance are important to prolong the service life of the tunnels. However, a traditional way of manual inspection and maintenance is inefficient and dangerous to human.
To coordinate with the new developed DTSS (Deep Tunnel Sewage System) in Singapore, Robotic Research Center in Nanyang Technological University launched a project to develop a tunnel inspection robotic system. The aim is to achieve unmanned pipeline surveillance for DTSS.
This dissertation partially contributes to the development of the pipeline inspection robotic system. The goal is to develop a GUI (Graphical User Interface) for the camera system of the inspection robot. The GUI should provide functions such as real-time display, lens control, snapshot, etc. After getting the original image from the GUI, a further image process for cracks detection is also required.
The result of the completed GUI shows that the real-time display and camera control functions were all realized successfully, and preliminary target detection was also achieved. |
