The Smart street lighting system saves a great amount of electricity or energy consumption compared to conventional street lights that keep alight during nights. Furthermore, this design can not only reduce the maintenance cost and it also increases the lifespan of the system. This report explains the step by step procedure on how to develop a solid-state outdoor lighting device which is integrated with light and motion sensors using solar photovoltaics (PV) power as the primary power source.
In this work, we study the different functions of component used in our prototype. Building a solar powered street lighting system that is totally independent of any external power supply. With Li-Po battery as backup storage, the system uses Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) for detecting light intensity and Passive InfraRed (PIR) Motion Sensor for detecting movements of the vehicles or pedestrians. And it is all embedded with Arduino, an open-source hardware kit.
The Smart street lighting system most prominently reduce human effort of manually switching On/Off of street light from time to time. The Smart street lighting system saves a great amount of electricity or energy consumption compared to conventional street lights that keep alight during nights. Furthermore, this design can not only reduce the maintenance cost and it also increases the lifespan of the system. |
