Summary: | With the rapid development of Internet of Things (IoT), Smart Mirror has emerged as one of the popular smart devices. It is generally known as a physical mirror with digital display behind the glass that shows a variety of real-time information. Some advanced variants of the mirror integrate cameras, microphones or even touch screens to promote human-computer interaction. As of its extended application, Smart Mirror may serve for home automation or as a personal assistant. In this project, a Smart Mirror is designed and built from scratch. The system includes necessary hardware infrastructures as well as several pieces of software running both locally and on the clouds. With the purpose of building an information provider prototype for Academic Programme Office (APO) at School of EEE, it provides various services such as displaying news headlines or notifications posted by administrators online. Moreover, it supports voice interaction mainly in answering a predefined list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) at School of EEE. As a side functionality, a speech grading software has also been developed and deployed onto the mirror. All the functionalities will be discussed in detail in later chapters. |
