Conformal multi-band antenna for personal mobility devices

This final year project studies the design of a microstrip patch antenna loaded with U-slots. This antenna is designed to conform to the cylindrical surface of a personal mobility device to support wireless services such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC). Through th...

This antenna is designed to conform to the cylindrical surface of a personal mobility device to support wireless services such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC). Through this design process, the fundamentals of antennas and the factors affecting antenna operation are presented and discussed. Parameters like the feed techniques, feed position, patch size, substrate material, substrate height, ground plane size, and various others have been selected carefully to meet the design requirements. This report includes the research on methods to achieve dual- or multi-band frequency operation in a microstrip patch antenna. With the eventual focus on achieving multi-band operation by loading U-slots onto the patch. Skills and techniques obtained through this project included project planning, time management, theoretical calculations, and the design of the antenna using computer-aided tools such as the computer-based HFSS. The discussion and recommendations are based on the results obtained through the simulations on HFSS.
