In addition, the increase in technology usage gave rise to overall energy consumption. Over the years, engineers have improved the design and efficiency of these technologies. These improvements can be made through from the upgrading of existing products or breakthrough in technologies. Furthermore, some of the improved products are able to operate autonomously and these products are categorised as smart technology. Smart technologies used in the lighting systems have replaced the traditional fluorescent tube, to the highly efficient Light Emitting Diode (LED) lights combined with sensors. In this project, the smart lighting system will be used to increase the convenience provided to users and even reduce energy wastage. Due to the everchanging position of the sun in the day, the amount of light entering the building varies. Hence, light intensity in the room plays an important role in determining whether the brightness of the lighting system should be adjusted to save energy. In order to further reduce energy wastage, light sensors are implemented to the current smart lighting system, which only uses motion sensor. Additionally, the development of a smartphone application allows users to gain control over the lighting system wirelessly through a mobile application. Furthermore, an alternative method of using touchscreen liquid-crystal display (LCD) can provide convenience to the user with control access to lighting system without having to reach out for their phones.
