Summary: | In this modern era like in Singapore, almost everyone owns a smartphone. With the popularity of smartphones owned by ordinary people and rapid growth of Wi-Fi hotspots, it is possible to easily harness the power of the crowd to collect and share data about their surroundings and experiences on a massive scale. Harnessing the power of the crowd to collect data automatically and share data voluntarily are the new growing technology and this known as hybrid crowdsensing. Hybrid crowdsensing combines both opportunistic crowdsensing and participatory crowdsensing.
In this project, the author is aimed to demonstrate the potential capability and the technical feasibility of the hybrid crowdsensing data-collecting process in the estimating and monitoring of passenger load onboard a campus bus. The Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ and a WebApp have been developed to demonstrate the opportunistic crowdsensing through obtaining the data automatically as well as voluntary data from the end-user via participatory crowdsensing. |
