In this project, an aluminium board would be placed above the antennas at various heights and the voltage levels would be observed. Gesture recognition would potentially result in many aspects which are helpful to humanity. For example, gesture recognition can alleviate the challenges faced by the hearing impaired or even allow young children to learn to control computers at a young age. Therefore, the overall ideal aim of this project is to have microwave gesture detection devices in homes. This would allow the convenience to control home applications and household devices for everyone. It would be particularly useful for the physically unfortunate and the elderly as there would be ease of control for devices in their homes. This final year project revolves around assembling various components for a gesture recognition device using microwaves from 8Ghz – 14Ghz. Ideally, the output of these assembly of devices would be on MATLAB. This report would show a consistent flow from the sourcing of various components required for this project, to the testing of these acquired components. These components would require their specific printed circuit boards, PCB in short, to allow tests to proceed. Therefore, these PCBs are either sourced online or sent for fabrication to a vendor. Challenges faced with respect to budget would be stated in detail along with the solution for these challenges. Finally, an assembly of these various components are shown and analysed for the output. These results would be also shown in this report as well. The results for the final integration shows that the system do respond to certain motion. However, the signal strength is insufficient for gesture recognition therefore the introduction of the Power Amplifier and the Low Noise Amplifier would be necessary.
