Operational and fouling characteristics of a membrane bioreactor using synthetic slaughterhouse wastewater
Slaughterhouse wastewater is considered one of the most detrimental wastewaters with due to its high intensity characteristics, and more treatments are needed to remove components in the wastewater for safe discharge. In this study, the use of nanofibre flat sheet membranes as compared to convention...

In this study, the use of nanofibre flat sheet membranes as compared to conventional pore-based membranes are explored and investigated to treat synthetic slaughterhouse wastewater. The system ran for 40 days to investigate the operational and fouling characteristics in regards to the utilization of the nanofibre membrane in a high intensity wastewater environment. The flux of the MBR system was observed to evaluate the rate of membrane fouling. The growth of MLSS was found to be more rapid as compared to lower intensity wastewaters, and increased air scouring and membrane maintenance was observed to lower the rate of fouling of the membranes.
