Summary:There has been an increasing number of nations moving towards being “smart” by exploring and utilizing info-communication technologies such as sensor nodes, networks and big data to create tech-enabled solutions. These solutions allow for the monitoring of environmental deprivations, which in turn, improve the quality of life and services for the citizens. It is crucial to monitor the surroundings to protect the natural environment from the negative impact of industrialization alongside continuous development of the nation. Existing monitoring network stations are spatially distributed and communicate through wireless protocols. This hinders the collection of real-time environmental data and yields high power consumption in the sensor nodes respectively. It is favourable and vital to reduce power consumption in a Wireless Sensor Network to prolong the battery lifespan in the sensor node. In this project, a power-efficient protocol i.e. Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) is implemented in the design of a sensor infrastructure to minimize power consumption. The setup involves the connection between a BLE sensor and two Raspberry Pi, whereby the sensor data are transmitted to a gateway and hub for data storage and real-time monitoring. The data is collected with the intention of analysis.
