Summary: | In the 21st century, electrical energy is one of the key resources that the humanity needs in today’s society. Based on the current situation, the amount of electricity used by people is tremendous and this is projected to increase over the years. The high energy demand will lead to more electrical energy being produced in order to meet the requirements of the energy demand. Thus, resulting in more greenhouse gases being released into the atmosphere causing global warming. In order to reduce carbon footprint emission as well as to meet the electrical demand, the use of renewable energy is highly recommended. The solar energy is one of the most favorable renewable energy used in Singapore mainly due to its sunny weather throughout the year and its land-space constrains. There would still be some complications even with the aid of solar energy. Thus, a Building Energy Management System (BEMS) is needed. BEMS monitors the load demand of a building and does its adjustment by applying the load shifting and peak clipping techniques prior to the load. The LabVIEW 2018 is a suitable software for this project as it has a graphical interface which allows the users to showcase the necessary requirements of a BEMS. As for the hardware portion, a scale-down replica of a smart building consisting of the converters, inverters, and load will be used to represent how does BEMS works. |
