Summary: | Dementia is an ailment that impairs the reasoning, memory, and daily social interaction of an individual. The issue of dementia is paramount worldwide especially for an ageing population such as Singapore. Caregivers often experience an overwhelming amount of stress and anxiety as a larger amount of attention and patience are required with an increasing number of dementia patients. As a result, there is a greater demand for an online centralised system platform that can be used in day-care centres to alleviate the work responsibilities of the caregivers. This project aims to improve the existing person-centred approach to dementia care through the implementation of mobile technology by developing an Android application. The main purpose of the PEAR application is to provide greater support for the caregivers in managing all on-going activities in the dementia care centre to enhance their efficiency and to improve the quality of treatment. The frontend developers revamped the user interface of the application to improve the look and feel of the design while ensuring consistency. This application will display the data of the patients retrieved from the database by calling the RESTful Application Programming Interface (API) link provided by the back-end developers. More functionalities were also added to better cater to the needs of the caregivers. In addition, numerous testing were conducted to detect and fix possible errors. To enhance the user experience, the performance of the application was taken into account the optimisation of code and the removal of unnecessary objects that could possibly slow down the application. |
