Summary: | Volunteering is a concept Singaporeans are familiarised with through compulsory school frameworks such as the Community Involvement Programme (CIP) or Values in Action (VIA) in their schooling years. The fact that it is compulsory in school creates a challenge for the act of giving back and caring beyond oneself in society to be ingrained in the students’ lives after school ends and work begins. Notorious for having an unhealthy work life balance, Singapore’s working culture further cultivates a ‘me-society’ focused on one’s responsibilities and needs upon leaving school. This may negate the efforts of the education system’s attempt to prepare us to care and do our part for our community (and the world). With this in mind, this project aims to address the barriers of entry for millennial undergraduates to volunteer beyond school and lower said barriers with a platform to make volunteering more accessible for busy millennials. |
