Along with the evolutionary development in memory card and IC technology, the size of electronic device is significantly reduced and becomes more portable. Some traditional input method, like physical keyboard, is not suitable for such small devices in term of convenience and portability. Touch screen input method has been developed and quickly becomes very popular, as it can be realize by human finger touching the existing display screen, without any additional equipment. However, some limitations are been found for touch screen. It may not suitable for devices with extremely small screen, including smart watch and smart wrist band. Touch screen also do not work well with wet fingers. In order to solve this problem, a few innovational technologies have been invented. For example, language sensing technology and infrared projection, which relies on optical principle and theorem. However, these technologies do not have very high accuracy and reliability. They are also restricted to many special environment limitations. Due to the rapid revolution of radar technology, radar sensing and recognition of human gesture might be possible. This is a contactless input method and is expected to have high accuracy. The radar requirements of RF frequencies, power-efficient, portable and financially affordable have all been fulfilled on due to the radar technology development. The RF frequency ensures high range and Doppler resolution. Power-efficient characteristic enable the radar to be power up by low voltage batteries. Portable size and low cost features make it able to be integrated into personal electronic devices. Study of gesture sensing by millimeter-wave radar will be one of the future trend in developing human- machine intelligence interaction.
