Summary:In recent year, the field of renewable energy has developed rapidly, which leads to an advance in introducing more kinds of renewable sources to generate electricity in the grid. In addition, the electric vehicle (EV) is emerging for its environmentally friendly characteristic compared to the traditional vehicle. However, both the introduction of renewable energy sources and the integration of EVs can cause voltage violations in the power system. Therefore, some measures should be taken to control the voltage when a disturbance occurs in the system. Among other things, the lack of communication and computational resource constraints in a power system call for distributed controls. This project proposes a new voltage control scheme to control the load voltage within a limit or reduce the deviation of the load voltage through regulating the generator voltage. To minimize the load voltage deviation, the relationship between the load voltage deviation and the generator voltage deviation is studied based on the Least Square Minimization (LSM) algorithm. A centralized control algorithm and a distributed control algorithm are designed and implemented respectively on MATLAB. After that, both of the two algorithms are simulated in different IEEE cases provided in MATPOWER, to determine the minimum of the load voltage deviation and set an optimal level of the generator voltage, which can help maintain the load voltage within an acceptable level. In addition, the advantages and disadvantages of the two algorithms are compared. In this project, The performance of the two control algorithms is analyzed in terms of computational speed and voltage errors.
