Description
Summary:Funerals in the Asian culture are often something that is planned only after someone’s death, however, the benefits of pre-planning outweighs the need to stay silent on this taboo topic. With it comes, the ability to negotiate the prices, customise the options, and perhaps more importantly the ease of the family’s burden when it happens. Seemingly the funeral industry’s current practice is not to disclose specific price points of their products, doubts can therefore arise. Is how much you’re paying in true relation with what you receive? This imbalance between the people and the funeral parlours is highly pronounced. Through field research and literature reviews, this research has identified a steady result where people are discussing the pre-planning of their funerals, however not many are putting this into practice. This is often the outcome of avoiding an unhappy topic, and the aftermath of a forbidden topic. Through my own personal enquiry, there is also a real struggle when investigating what goes on behind the prices of a curated package. Therefore, this project aims to encourage people on the importance of planning of your own funeral or leaving behind instructions on its arrangements. An accessible platform that helps curate, ease, and relieve the choosing of a good funeral parlour and pre-plan your funeral is something that is warranted in Singapore.
