This project aims to design an automatic control system for fiber alignment. The control system includes a power meter and two alignment stages driven by closed-loop piezoelectric actuators. The dimension of the fiber is in a micrometer. Thus, it is challenging for a human to see if the two fiber are aligned to the most optimized position. By designing an automatic fiber coupling system, the user can align the fiber more efficiently and more accurately. The user is also able to see the results from the user interface. Besides, the user can select the type of scanning according to the kind experiment setup which he is going to conduct using the LabVIEW user interface. This would create a versatile and efficient automatic fiber coupling system for the user. The objective of this project is to design an efficient alignment algorithm and use LabVIEW to control the fiber alignment system to achieve optimal laser output power. The task is to link and set up all the hardware together. Besides, the validation performance of the hardware with the software provided will be done. A LabVIEW program which has all the essential functions for an experiment which requires fiber coupling will be designed at the end of this Final Year Project.
