Summary:Vehicle-to-Everything communication (V2X), includes the communication of vehicles to different entities such as other vehicles (V2V), pedestrians, different networks and infrastructures. V2X currently employ two methods for communication, namely the LTE-V2V standard and the Dedicated Short-Range Communication (DSRC). DSRC is designed to support various types of applications in vehicular communication which includes vehicle collision avoidance, hazard warning system, electronic payment etc. Vehicles communicate with each other by broadcasting messages sets. There are various message sets that can broadcasted during V2X communication. The most important message set is known as the Basic Safety Message (BSM) as it contains critical information regarding the transmitting vehicle. When the transmitting vehicle is not in direct line of sight with the receiving vehicle, it is known as Non-Line of Sight (NLOS) transmission. Studies have shown that signal quality degrades with such NLOS transmission. Due to the low positioning of antenna on the cars, radio transmission might be blocked by obstructions such as buildings or large vehicles. Radio transmission relaying can be employed to overcome the problem of such obstruction. Large vehicles such as buses or trucks on the road can be equipped with a relay system. It will thereafter act as a beacon of relay for the blocked cars, receiving transmission from one car and disseminating the information out to the other car. This report aims to cover the feasibility of radio transmission relaying for the use case where the cars and large vehicle are travelling in the same direction and lane.
