At the same time, a lot of confidential information are being uploaded on multiple web platforms. Among the trending web applications, the applications that are becoming more popular are electronic commerce applications, also known as e-commerce applications. For e-commerce applications, confidential information such as personal details and payment information need to be stored. So, the security and privacy of the information being shared on the web applications are very important for both the e-commerce application developers and the users. However, it is not uncommon for such important information to be stolen and mis-used due to the gap in authentication process for e-commerce applications. One traditional method used in web applications to authenticate users is the use of passwords. Countless records of cyber-crimes have proven how vulnerable password-protection can be. Therefore, further research is needed to figure out the most secure method of authentication for e-commerce security. Previous findings have suggested that biometric features are the most unique features to identify a person and they cannot be stolen or imitated easily. The purpose of this research project is to explore various biometric features and their compatibility to be implemented in e-commerce applications. In this research, face-recognition algorithm is selected for implementation after the basic comparison of the available biometric systems.
