This will be done through a mix of theoretical and practical components. The theoretical research will investigate the history of local Singaporean cinema in the 1950s and 1960s, and the life of P.Ramlee from the 1940s till his death in 1973 through documentaries and literature. The practical component attempts to reconstruct and re-contextualise the golden age and the emotional turmoil that stars of this period experienced following its end. This will be expressed through an online interactive webcomic, Red: Hilang Gemilang, which focuses on feelings of loss and of moving on. Set in 1990, 27 years after the closure of Malay Film Productions in Singapore, it follows Mia, the protagonist, who once used to be an actress who graced the silver screen in Singapore and her journey to bid goodbye to her past.
