Description
Summary:This report explains the use of adaptive backstepping control algorithms to counteract earthquake excitation forces. The model in Simulink first creates a simulation of earthquake forces acting on base isolation system. Base isolation system is a popular method around the world to protect buildings against earthquakes. The earthquake forces are then controlled by backstepping control algorithms to ensure stability. This report is divided certain parts. The first part consists of the modelling of base isolation system and random excitation forces acting on it. The second consists of a basic backstepping control method. The third part will include a modified and improved version of the backstepping control. The fourth part would be the results and discussion, and the conclusion we will derive from the project. The project is successful to a certain extent, as the improved controller not being able to achieve further improvements in stability.
