Description
Summary:The FMCW radar has been largely used in the automobile industry for obstacle avoidance and adaptive cruise control, largely due to its simplicity in design and low costs. However, not much research has been done to test out its effectiveness in other applications, such as for the detection of small targets. The purpose of this project is to determine the suitability of an FMCW radar for the purpose of detection and ranging of small targets such as Drones. It will involve the use of MATLAB programming for the design and the conduct of simulations to test out the efficiency of the FMCW radar system in detecting these small targets. Point-targets will be used to simulate the small targets and the scenarios in the various simulations will aim to test out the efficiency of the system in detecting these targets and plotting their tracks, as well as determining their range and relative velocity. The range resolution of the system will also be observed, to determine the radar’s ability in effectively distinguishing multiple targets.
