Summary:Wireless power transfer has been made feasible in the recent years due to the advancement in technology. Many mobile phone manufacturers today are pushing for wireless charging. Following Apple and Samsung, many other companies also started offering such capabilities in their latest line-up of phones. This trend of wireless charging can also be seen in the large-scale applications such as the Electric Vehicles (EVs). Due to the rising of oil prices and environmental concern, there is an increasing popularity in EVs in the recent years. The conventional EVs is charged at a plug-in charging stations, but these requires the special charging lots to be built for the EVs. Thus, this project aims to develop a wireless charging system for EVs which removes the hassle of plug-in chargers. In this report, we will investigate on the use of magnetic resonant coupling method which has 3 key advantages giving it an edge over the conventional inductive charging method. A prototype wireless charging system is also design, developed, and tested.
