Summary: | Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machine is widely used in the manufacturing and automation industry. It can translate commands from computer software into high reliability, high repeatability and precision actuation to serve certain purpose that is hard to be done manual way. Given an opportunity and self interest, Author had participated in a company project to develop a CNC machine. The aim of the project is to reduce human operator fatigue by developing a CNC machine to help to move a microscope. The project was divided into three main phases. In phase 1, the concept of the machine was brainstormed and developed into virtual 3D design. Calculations were been used to decide and select the components of the design. After that, Finite Element Method was been used to analyze the designed model to help to reduce the possibility to fail in actual prototyping phase. In phase 2, the electrical circuit and components for the machine were planned and decided under the advice and guidance from the experts. The electrical circuit was then tested with various method and equipment to ensure the device functionality before installed to the prototype machine. In phase 3, the prototype machine was built and tested. Several problems were found during this phase, mainly caused by signal interferences. The machine was been troubleshoot to reduce and eliminate the problem causes. The project was success to fulfill its primary purpose to reduce operator fatigue and the team looking forward for future development and improvement using the experiences gained. |
