Summary: | The purpose of this project is to develop an experimental set up to conduct photoacoustic tomography studies in obtaining 2D images of biological tissues. This is to be achieved by designing a LabVIEW based interface to control the ultrasound detector rotation, positioning and data acquisition. This report encompasses of two segments – the hardware and the software. The hardware segment covers the designs and finished product. The software segment includes the creation of the LabVIEW programme that can control the hardware, acquire and process the data obtained. The designs for the hardware include drawings drawn on the PRO-E programme, with details of improvements from each design to suit the purpose of the project. The final design and finished product describe the functionality of the various parts including the rotating disc, transducer rod, outer skeleton, motor and controller that are involved in photoacoustic imaging. On the other hand, the LabVIEW programme, comprises the functionality of each block diagram in motor control and the integration of the programme with the data acquisition card. This includes how the programme is initiated, triggered and the method in which data is saved. When the scanning option is selected, the LabVIEW programme triggers the movement of the hardware, enabling the circular rotation of the transducer rod by initiating the controller and motor. |
