Summary:Containerisation have revolutionised the maritime industry through standardisation. Intermodal transportation is very prevalent in today’s context. However, it brought up rising concern in security issues, especially after the 9-11 attack in the United States. This is because containers can be used as a medium by the terrorists to transport weapons of mass destruction (WMD). Besides terrorism, the container transport chain is vulnerable to other threats such as cyber-attack, stowaway, piracy, cargo thief and smuggling of illegal goods and drugs. As Singapore is a global maritime hub for container shipping, developing a secured environment is of utmost important to ensure continuity of trade. Thus, the objective of this research is to study the security of the warehouses that reside in Singapore, which is one of the entities in the container transport chain. A qualitative risk analysis was conducted to examine the level of risk pertaining to certain security threats faced by the warehouse. The findings showed that there are no pressing threats for the warehouse community in Singapore at the present. After which, the findings also looked into the current measures adopted by the warehouses. Lastly, recommendations on how warehouse security can be improved are given, in terms of human factor and technologies.
