Description
Summary:This project studies and investigates the design and application of a remote driven robotic vehicle system. With the advancements in Communications Technology and Augmented Reality, robotic systems are expanding into techniques that allows for reliable, extensive and responsive remote control of the robot. This project firstly explores the development of a control system that allows a robotic vehicle to be driven remotely with the use of a steering wheel and pedal for motion and a camera for a real time video streaming. This is done using a robotic vehicle controlled by a raspberry pi communicating wirelessly through Wi-Fi. This project then subsequently explores the development of a multiplayer augmented reality game where players can operate different robotic vehicles remotely, incorporating a stereoscopic first-person view to further immersion. Having this additional layer help stress-test the underlying system built and allows for us to explore new applications of a remote driven robotic vehicle system. With augmented reality as a popular immersive technology, extending the project into AR helps us better understand the concerns around such systems.
