Development of Singapore’s new residential homes would be the main contributing factor to demand in electrical supply and a challenge for the utility suppliers in present day and in future to come. Utility suppliers must ensure demands are met or limited within a certain range to prevent undesirable results during peak periods. In the report, the targeted audience will be residential consumers. This report provides a comprehensive review on previous and present research related to DMS by considering various DR techniques, smart technologies and home energy management system (HEMS). Utility organisations implement DSM in electrical networks to engage consumers through the use of Demand Response (DR) tools that benefit both parties. This system creates optimal consumption schedules by considering the following factors, such as electricity costs, environment concerns, load profiles and consumer comfort. The controller tool used to engage consumers is the HEMS which provides consumers with information and analysis regarding their energy usage of their electronic devices.
