It has been projected that the number of patients diagnosed with dementia will reach 152 million in 2050. This number is 3 times the number of patients diagnosed with dementia in 2018. Dementia is the leading chronic disease that the elderly are vulnerable to and diagnosed patients will require prolonged special care by professional healthcare workers. This is because no cure or prevention is available to date. This highlights the severity of this problem as the number of people coping with dementia is increasing drastically. With that, more people are admitted to care centres which provide medical treatment with the aid from the government, and professionals such as doctors and caregivers. Hence, a scalable, reliable and user-friendly PErson-centred-cARe (PEAR) system is needed. In this project, a mobile and web-based application will be designed, developed and implemented to assist the caregivers in providing better care for dementia patients. Microsoft ASP.NET MVC 5, Microsoft Entity Framework v6.0, and Android Studio are the main technologies used to deal with the web application, Object Relational Mapper (ORM) and mobile application respectively. The aim of this project is to improve on the existing web application to provide more functionalities and create a better user experience for the professionals in the dementia care centre. The system provides an efficient and secure platform for the professionals to maintain and update all data items in the centre’s database. Upon implementation, the PEAR system is expected to provide all the necessary functionalities for each different user role in the web application. In the future, the PEAR system will be improving continuously and providing more functionality to both mobile and web-based application.
