The voice of the film censorship in republican china was started in the folk, but in the process of being returned to the government step by step, it went to highly political and centralization, showing the characteristics of the bottom-up, and the necessity of the early examination as well as the political purpose. After the establishment of “film censorship committee”, the film censorship system began to be mature and effective, and the focus of examination was gradually concentrating on the key words like Insulting Chinese, The Left Wing, Sensuality. Its formation was from the specific time and environment, and to a great extent, it reflects the influence on arts from many traditional Chinese values. Even though the members from film censorship committee have tried rather hard to prevent the illegal films from being filmed and broadcast, the effectiveness was often disappointing. The reasons are various: external and internal worries, the lack of talents and so on. Meanwhile, stereotyped mode of thinking and aesthetic orientation also make the film censorship of the republican China have many limitations. This thesis focuses on the development and self-organization of the film censorship system in republican China from 1932 to 1937, as well as the construction and implementation of its censorship. I tries to explore the historical significance from a few special and meaningful cases, in order to understand the people and the government in that era, which is different from the special needs in other eras. From a variety of newspapers and magazines, and historical literature to find the clues of the discussion and review of the film from the people and the government, so that the film business development, power struggles and ideological changes have been more enlightened at that time.
