Summary:The processing and characterisation of cordierite glass-AIN, indialite-AIN and cordierite-AIN composites are studied. Based on the low dielectric constant and low processing temperature of cordierite glass and the high thermal conductivity of aluminium nitride experiments designed to study the processing conditions and its effect on the glass and crystalline phases and the thermal conductivity were carried out. In designing the composite, the low processing temperature of cordierite glass was exploited to provide for the mechanical strength while aluminium nitride was exploited for the high thermal conductivity.
