State Of The Art Review On Selective Laser Melting Of Stainless Steel For Future Applications In The Marine Industry

This paper presents a state of the art review on the properties of stainless steel processed using Selective Laser Melting (SLM). SLM is an Additive Manufacturing (AM) process that uses laser to melt and fuse powder particles together to form 3-dimensional components. SLM of stainless steel has been...

Description
Summary:This paper presents a state of the art review on the properties of stainless steel processed using Selective Laser Melting (SLM). SLM is an Additive Manufacturing (AM) process that uses laser to melt and fuse powder particles together to form 3-dimensional components. SLM of stainless steel has been a widely researched area, and has seen applications in many industries. Conventional methods and SLM of stainless steel processing are reviewed. The resultant properties of stainless steels processed by SLM are presented. Potential and technical challenges in SLM of stainless steel for the marine industry are discussed.
