Description
Summary:The Annual Survey on the Risk Management Practices of Unit Trusts in Singapore has entered its fourth year. 1999 saw the local unit trust industry experiencing a boom, with the number of locally managed unit trusts seeing a jump from 127 (as at end 1998) to 251 (at end 1999). Encouraged by the rapid pace of financial reform, the unit trust industry has undergone many major facelifts. This research serves to study the significant trends and changes in the risk management practices of the fund managers. In addition, this survey extends the previous three surveys by asking new questions about the IMAS, Y2K operational issue, fund manager’s background information, and hedging policies. It is observed that the general level of risk management practices and disclosure has seen a gradual improvement over the previous years, most notably in the areas of investment policy statements, and management of equity, liquidity, operational and regulatory risks.
