Description
Summary:Continuing training and professional development is of perennial concern in every profession. This paper outlines the proposal to implement a Professional Development Scheme (PDS) for the Library Association of Singapore. The scheme aims to recognize the effort and achievements of librarians in their professional training and development effort by awarding the status of “Practicing Professional (PP)” to those who attain a prescribed level of training and professional development activities. The paper discusses the philosophy and practical considerations behind its design, elaborate on the key components, address some issues raised by members of the community, outline the benefits to and impact on the professional community and finally discuss the likely challenges in its implementation.
