Synthesis and characterization of apatite wasteforms using simulated radioactive liquid waste

Description
Summary:Single-phase apatite-type materials containing simulated radioactive liquid waste (Cs, Sr, REE) were synthesized by conventional solid-state reaction at the relatively low temperature of 700 °C. The products consisted of columnar crystallites typical of apatite materials. Mass loss stabilized at 700 °C with near quantitative retention of Cs confirming that evaporation of this volatile element was negligible.
