Description
Summary:A truss model is presented in this paper to predict the load deflection response of reinforced concrete beams subjected to flexure and shear. The truss model which has struts at various angles is derived considering concrete contribution. The concrete contribution is then integrated into the modified truss model through the concept of equivalent stirrup reinforcement. The validity and applicability of the proposed truss model is evaluated by comparing results with experimental data. Good correlations with the experimental data have been obtained. This study shows that the truss model analogy, if properly treated, can be used to access both shear strength as well as the load deflection response of reinforced concrete elements subjected to shear and flexure.
