Description
Summary:As more and more universities are developing institutional repositories to facilitate global knowledge sharing through open access resources, students are participating in these IR's in a variety of ways. This presentation will explore how undergraduate and graduate students are involved in Institutional Repositories and why active engagement in IR's as creators and disseminators of research content can lead to achievement of learning outcomes which will provide them with an understanding of the social, ethical, legal, intellectual, and economic facets of scholarly communications. With the emerging convergence of scholarly communications and information literacy, universities can use institutional repositories to ensure that students develop the media and information literacy competencies essential for shaping and leading the new face of global and scholarly communications.
