This article focuses on issues related to professional management education in Asia at the beginning of the twenty-first century. News reports and professional journals are replete with stories about the economic boom in both China and India, the world's two most populous countries. The demand for management education is exploding along with this economic boom, at least partly as a derived demand. If management education is properly done and is successful, it will also be an endogenous variable in this development. In management education, there is a large and dramatically growing number of programs globally and these programs are virtually all struggling for identity and distinctiveness. Universities face unprecedented funding problems in the early twenty-first century. Cash-strapped governments that face aging populations and the subsequent consequences of health care costs increasingly desire to reduce their financial commitments to universities. As the expected explosive demand for management education unfolds in Asia, it is important to develop more relevant, rigorous research in the Asian environment. The governments and societies that support management education require this. 2005-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://ink.library.smu.edu.sg/lkcsb_research/1628 info:doi/10.1509/jppm.24.1.150.63889 https://doi.org/10.1509/jppm.24.1.150.63889 Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business eng Institutional Knowledge at Singapore Management University Marketing
