sg-smu-ink.lkcsb_research-60442019-11-26T07:50:25Z Understanding and tackling societal grand challenges through management research GEORGE, Gerard HOWARD-GRENVILLE, Jennifer JOSHI, Aparna TIHANYI, Laszlo “Grand challenges” are formulations of global problems that can be plausibly addressed through coordinated and collaborative effort. In this Special Research Forum, we showcase management research that examines societal problems that individuals, organizations, communities, and nations face around the world. We develop a framework to guide future research to provide systematic empirical evidence on the formulation, articulation, and implementation of grand challenges. We highlight several factors that likely enhance or suppress the attainment of collective goals, and identify representative research questions for future empirical work. In so doing, we aspire to encourage management scholars to engage in tackling broader societal challenges through their collaborative research and collective insight. 2016-12-01T08:00:00Z text application/pdf https://ink.library.smu.edu.sg/lkcsb_research/5045 info:doi/10.5465/amj.2016.4007 https://ink.library.smu.edu.sg/context/lkcsb_research/article/6044/viewcontent/UT_societal_grand_challenges_2016_pv.pdf http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/ Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business eng Institutional Knowledge at Singapore Management University Management research empirical research sustainable development social problems Business Law, Public Responsibility, and Ethics Strategic Management Policy |
