We propose an analytical framework to examine the gestation, evolution and sustainability of science parks and regional phenomena at a broader scale such as technology districts. The framework comprises three aspects of a science park's development: growth mechanisms, level of technological capabilities, and integration with national or global markets. The main growth mechanisms we identify are government-led infrastructure provision, agglomeration effects and continual self-renewal through the creation of new businesses. We apply this framework to analyze Singapore's science park strategy and the recent One-North initiative. 2004-12-01T08:00:00Z text application/pdf https://ink.library.smu.edu.sg/lkcsb_research/5329 info:doi/10.2139/ssrn.626361 https://ink.library.smu.edu.sg/context/lkcsb_research/article/6328/viewcontent/SSRN_id626361.pdf http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/ Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business eng Institutional Knowledge at Singapore Management University Science parks Silicon Valley Hsinchu Cambridge Singapore Growth and Development |
