sg-smu-ink.lkcsb_research-64012019-08-30T07:46:29Z Speaking out: The responsibilities of management intellectuals: A survey DUNNE, Stephen HARNEY, Stefano PARKER, Martin This article discusses our analysis of over 2,000 articles publishedwithin 20 top business and management journals. The article empirically demonstrates how little attention is being paid by the work published within these journals to contemporary political issues across the globe. We also demonstrate the extent to which the same is true of ‘critical’ journals such as Organization. To this end we argue that mass scholarly ranking mechanisms, such as the British Research Assessment Exercise (RAE),create a general state of myopia on the part of business and management scholars towards a variety of political issues, even making a virtue out of ignorance in this regard. We suggest that this is not simply a problem for critical management studies and proceed to raise the question of what the responsibility of business and management academia actually is. 2008-03-01T08:00:00Z text application/pdf https://ink.library.smu.edu.sg/lkcsb_research/5402 info:doi/10.1177/1350508407087871 https://ink.library.smu.edu.sg/context/lkcsb_research/article/6401/viewcontent/1350508407087871__1_.pdf http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/ Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business eng Institutional Knowledge at Singapore Management University academic responsibility business and management scholarship critical management studies (CMS) journal rankings Business Higher Education Politics and Social Change |
