KOTHA, Suresh Drawing on two influential perspectives, Competitive Dynamics (CD) and Resource-Based View (RBV), this study examines how strategic resources and competitive actions in combination influence survival. Despite the importance of strategic resources, critics of RBV have argued that a focus on resources seems too deterministic in that it underemphasizes how firms leverage resources through actions. Similarly, CD research has focused mainly on competitive actions but underemphasized the role of resources. Juxtaposing both literatures, we showed that competitive actions mediate the effect of alliance resources, the mediating strengths differ based on resource readiness, and different actions interact to mediate the effect of resources further. We offer a salient framework by focusing on technology alliance-new product introductions, and marketing alliances- individuation actions pairs. We test these hypotheses using longitudinal archival data in the context of U.S. Internet Business-to-Business newly public ventures from 1996 to 2007. 2013-08-01T07:00:00Z text https://ink.library.smu.edu.sg/lkcsb_research/5855 info:doi/10.5465/ambpp.2013.13372abstract https://doi.org/10.5465/ambpp.2013.13372abstract Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business eng Institutional Knowledge at Singapore Management University Strategic Management Policy
