Despite the importance of strategic resources, critics of RBV have argued that a focus on resources seems too deterministic in that it underemphasizes how firms leverage resources through actions. Similarly, CD research has focused mainly on competitive actions but underemphasized the role of resources. Juxtaposing both literatures, we showed that competitive actions mediate the effect of alliance resources, the mediating strengths differ based on resource readiness, and different actions interact to mediate the effect of resources further. We offer a salient framework by focusing on technology alliance-new product introductions, and marketing alliances- individuation actions pairs.
