Summary: | Pet owners go to great lengths to ensure that their beloved pets will be taken care of after the owner’s death. However, the common law has traditionally regarded trusts for pets as invalid. In this paper, the author examines the common law issues surrounding pet trusts and the historical development of pet trust statutes in the United States.
