Description
Summary:This book discusses the fundamentals of legal research, analysis and writing, with focus on the requirements of Singapore law. The book will teach students how to (i) analyse caselaw and statutes, (ii) understand and research legal questions, and (iii) conduct legal analysis. It will also teach students the art of legal writing, including how to (iv) structure legal arguments, (v) draft both persuasive and predictive memoranda, and (vi) write in a clear and convincing manner. Finally, the book provides a number of tips for surviving law school and the first few years of practice. Examples are provided based on Singapore law, as well as English law and the laws of other common-law jurisdictions. A practical book for learning legal research, analysis and writing, it emphasizes the rigors of legal research, as well as provides analytical and writing skills which can be readily applied in practice. While the book focuses on examples from Singapore law, it also provides examples from English law and the laws of other common-law jurisdictions, helping students understand the intersectionality of laws from multiple jurisdictions.
