Its Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) recognises the need to strike a reasonable balance between the need for organisations to collect, use and disclose personal data, with individuals’ right to protection of their personal data. As such, the data protection authorities are constantly reviewing the PDPA and its impact, with the results seen through new or updated advisory guidelines, and potentially even changes to the PDPA itself. For instance, while it takes a consent-based approach to data protection, it has lately adopted the concept of “deemed consent by notification,” and will also allow exceptions for “legitimate interests.” Other laws, such as the Computer Misuse Act and the Criminal Procedure Code, also affect Singapore’s data protection regime in significant ways. 2020-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://ink.library.smu.edu.sg/sol_research/3152 info:doi/10.1007/978-3-030-28049-9_13 https://search.library.smu.edu.sg/discovery/fulldisplay?docid=alma99552806302601&context=L&vid=65SMU_INST:SMU_NUI&lang=en&search_scope=Everything&adaptor=Local%20Search%20Engine&tab=Everything&query=any,contains,Data%20Protection%20in%20the%20Internet&offset=0 Research Collection Yong Pung How School Of Law eng Institutional Knowledge at Singapore Management University Data protection Singapore Personal Data Protection Act PDPA internet Asian Studies Internet Law |
